Mars – Steel Conversion

Price range: $260.00 through $620.00

This custom build begins as a genuine OxS Mission to Mars and is re-cased into your choice of upgraded stainless steel options. The original G10.212 quartz chronograph movement, dial, and hands are carefully transplanted into a solid steel case, delivering enhanced durability, weight, and everyday wearability while preserving the bold, mission-driven character of Mars.

Inspired by NASA’s “Alaska Project,” the design carries true tool-watch roots, built for extreme conditions. This upgrade brings that vision to life with a case that finally matches the toughness the watch was always meant to represent.

Description

Sometimes a watch deserves a second chapter, and that’s where this build comes in.

HISTORY
Moonphase Mods didn’t start as a storefront. It began with me photographing my own watches online, mostly for fun and creative expression. Then the messages started. People wanted their watches upgraded, converted, personalized. One request turned into ten, ten turned into a bench full of parts, and before long I was building for collectors around the world. Every piece still carries that same spirit of curiosity and collaboration.

LEGITIMACY AND BRAND RELATIONSHIPS
Each watch begins as a genuine retail purchase lawfully acquired by us. After purchase, the watch is materially modified and resold as a custom build in accordance with the First Sale Doctrine. As a result of these modifications, the finished piece is not a new product and any original manufacturer warranties are void. These watches are independent, custom creations and are not sponsored, endorsed by, affiliated with, or connected to Omega, Swatch, or any other watch manufacturer.

WHY UPGRADE?
Mars commands attention with its bold red accents and mission-ready aesthetic, but the bioceramic case can feel a bit too light for something inspired by extreme environments. This conversion brings in weight, strength, and a more substantial wrist presence while preserving the raw, adventurous spirit that defines Mars.

Inspired by the legendary “Alaska Project” developed for NASA’s harsh conditions, the Mars design carries that same tool-watch DNA. The upgrade simply finishes the job, turning it into something that feels as capable as it looks.

  • Real steel wrist presence and longevity
  • Sapphire clarity instead of plastic
  • Increased scratch and impact resistance
  • Better sealing and water tolerance*
  • Classic visuals in a tougher package

You keep the soul. You gain the structure.

• Case: 316L stainless steel
• Dimensions: 39 mm bezel diameter, 41 mm mid-case
• Lug-to-lug: 46 mm
• Thickness: 12.9 mm (including bubble sapphire)
• Crystal: Bubble sapphire with high-clear AR coating
• Caseback: Screw-down stainless steel
• Crown & Pushers: Screw-down crown with dual chronograph pushers
• Bracelet: 316L stainless steel, 20 mm tapering to 16 mm
• Clasp: Milled clasp with 5-position micro-adjust
• Bezel: Fixed aluminum insert (varies by build)
• Water Resistance: 50 meters / 150 feet*
While the case is rated to 50 meters under ideal conditions, swimming with a chronograph is not recommended. The chronograph pushers are a common point of water entry, relying on small gaskets that can become pinched, rolled, damaged, worn, or otherwise fail to seal properly. Water resistance also depends on the crown and caseback being fully secured. If either is not properly tightened, or the crown has been left unscrewed after setting the time, water can enter the watch. As with any watch, water resistance is not permanent and should be tested periodically if the watch is regularly exposed to water.

• Case: 316L stainless steel
• Dimensions: 40 mm bezel diameter, 40 mm mid-case
• Lug-to-lug: 47 mm

• Caseback: Screw-down stainless steel
• Crown & Pushers: Push-pull crown with dual chronograph pushers

• Water Resistance: 100 meters / 330 feet*
While the case is rated to 100 meters under ideal conditions, swimming with a chronograph is not recommended.
